Associate Consultant

Andrew brings a wealth of experience in Exercise Referral and Physical Activity in clinical, public health and commissioning roles, being responsible for multi-million pound budgets in the public sector in recent years.

With a Sport and Exercise Science background (BSc, Hons), he has a depth of experience in working in Phase III and IV Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary and Stroke rehabilitation, Mental Health, Low Back Pain, Obesity, Diabetes and Cancer, working directly with thousands of patients early in his career in both the public and private sectors, culminating in being awarded the UK’s first Centre of Excellence in Exercise Referral by the Wright Foundation.

Completing a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) more recently, he has also worked in project and programme management and operated strategically at high levels in the public sector, having been seconded to Public Health North East in 2008 to lead on the development of ‘Health and 2012’ action plans for the North East region prior to the London 2012 Olympics, working with Sport England, DCMS and other partners. Thereafter he developed ‘A Physical Activity Strategy for County Durham’ in 2010 which led to a £5 million investment from Public Health in County Durham to lead on a large programme around physical activity and CVD/Type 2 Diabetes risk which supported over 20,000 people to become more active across the local area, receiving National acclaim.

On the skills agenda Andrew was involved with the WRIGHT Foundation from the release of the National Quality Assurance Framework for Exercise Referral Systems (NQAF) and the inception of REPs, influencing and shaping early on. He has also led in developing programmes of professional development for Sport and Exercise Science having been CPD workshop representative for two years with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) physical activity division and also Chairing the North East Physical Activity Forum and CPD group for 5 years, developing endorsed CPD opportunities with Skills Active and REPs.

Andrew’s mix of skills in delivery, project and programme management, strategic development, commissioning and continuing professional development make him an invaluable resource to WRIGHT Foundation CIC and the industry as he leads the UK and International expansion of the Foundation into the future.
